Kimble Greene, PHD
It’s like it happened yesterday even though it’s been over two years. I still vividly recall the first time I saw Daughters of Change on social media. Immediately, I clicked to the website and thought, ‘Wow, it must be amazing to be a Daughter of Change!’ I considered reaching out to the Founder/President, Marie Sola, then thought to myself, ‘I’m probably not important enough and haven’t accomplished enough to be worthy of being a Daughter of Change’. I imagined Marie to be this cool and influential lady who lived in a mansion high atop a lush green hill in some exotic faraway place. Oh well, I told myself, maybe someday.
Ironically, I’m a best-selling author, internationally recognized for my game-changing approach to personal transformation and leadership development with a PhD in psychology, among other career accomplishments. Additionally, I’ve done more personal growth over the course of my life than I know how to effectively describe. I’ve struggled, doubted, prevailed, failed, and triumphed in small and large ways, over and over. In short, I’ve come a long way personally and achieved some impressive things professionally. My goal in sharing this information is by no means an attempt at tooting my own horn. In fact, it feels awkward even writing about it. The point is to emphasize that regardless of the success, titles, credentials, and other – sometimes important and more often superfluous – things we achieve on the outside, inside we’re still human beings with fears and failures, hopes and triumphs.
As previously described when I first discovered Daughters of Change, I still have moments of self-doubt and fear. When faced with my own illusion that someone is ‘more’ or ‘better’ than I, my ‘I’m not enough’ voice bellows in my ear. That’s because regardless of all the growth, achievement and success, our fears and frailties still exist and we don’t always show up confident and fearless – no matter how far along we’ve come, personally or professionally. The key is in strengthening your “I am enough’ voice and diminishing the voices that oppose your inherent value and worth.
As cosmic forces would have it, three days after first learning of Daughters of Change, I was scheduled to attend a women’s networking dinner. It was a frigid, snowy winter night and I really didn’t want to make the 30-minute drive to spend an evening with a group of women I’d never met. However, something inside kept pushing me, so I decided to go. There were about 25 women in attendance, only one of whom I knew. After some chitchat we headed toward the tables to grab a seat for dinner. I ended up sitting next to a woman I hadn’t yet met that evening. It didn’t take long for us to strike up a conversation and much to my surprise (actually it was more like shock, so it’s a good thing I was sitting down!) it was Marie Sola. We discovered we had much in common along with an instant connection. By the end of the meal, she invited me to be a guest on her podcast as a Daughter of Change. (Turns out she doesn’t live in a hilltop mansion in some exotic foreign place. She is however cool and influential!)
The moral of the story is…You are enough, you’re wiser than you know, and you’re more powerful than you realize. Believing in the extraordinary person you already are at your core isn’t always easy, nor does that part of you show up all the time. More importantly, believing you are worthy and important doesn’t require credentials, status, or any other outside accomplishments. Inside, you are extraordinary because you exist. Finding pathways to nurture and encourage extraordinary you – through struggle, growth, and success – is vital. Embrace the knowing that at your core you are a Daughter of Change!
